Mark spent the past 40+ years in advertising at the industry’s most prestigious agencies, including LINTAS, Grey Advertising, The UniWorld Group and CommonHealth. Mark was chosen by filmmaker Spike Lee to co-found and manage his new agency, Spike/DDB. Mark built the agency from start-up to a $35 million dollar phenomenon in one year. Mark has been featured in Fortune magazine, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Advertising Age.
Mr. Robinson is a member of the AAF Multicultural Marketing Leadership Council, a touring lecturer for the AEF, and an ongoing mentor for MAIP. In 2009, he received the Martin Luther King Leadership Award for activities in diversity and multicultural education.
In 2001, Mark was recognized as the Entrepreneur of the Year for the launch of S/R Communications Alliance; the first 100% minority-owned network of 10 multicultural advertising companies, with combined business of $225 million.
Mark is a highly sought-after strategist and advisor to various political campaigns and organizations.
Over the years, Mark have been an active part of many organizations and initiatives, focusing his efforts and energy on his community (both Ridgefield and the State of Connecticut), his profession (advertising) and for communities of color.
In 1994, Mark was part of a group of community activists that formed ROUND (Ridgefielders Organized for Understanding and Diversity) and served as its chairman, organizing and hosting dozens of community events, including the area’s very first annual Gay Pride Festival. ROUND also inaugurated Ridgefield’s first Martin Luther King Day Celebration, which Mark Robinson organized and has hosted for the past 25 years. Appointed in 2000 by the Governor to the state’s Martin Luther King Jr. Commission, he served as the Commission’s Vice Chairman from 2005 - 2012.
