Born in Brooklyn, NY and resident of Hartford, CT since 1972. Retired Hartford public school teacher and union leader. A longtime community, civil rights, labor, Latino and political activist. Served on numerous nonprofit boards and in public policy roles. Served for over a decade as a Hartford Planning and Zoning Commissioner. Currently serving a fifth term as a state representative for South Hartford’s 6th Assembly District as a Deputy Speaker. Married to Sylvia Vargas a fellow retired teacher.
